Soft pornography 'figurines' quietly sold to students, prosecutors suggest special crackdown

More and more people are interested in models and figurines. The figurines in your eyes are full of childlike innocence, but in reality, there are many figurines with pornographic and soft pornographic content. What is even more worrying is that these pornographic figurines are flowing to minors. The prosecutor from the "Childhood Without Min" team of Minhang District Procuratorate noticed that some shops are currently selling soft pornographic figurines to minors.

Xiaoya is a 15-year-old female high school student who is an anime enthusiast and enjoys buying anime figurines. In the summer of 2023, Xiaoya purchased some "revealing clothing and peculiar posture" figurine dolls from figurine stores and online platforms. Due to his addiction to figurines, his academic performance plummeted, and he was also targeted by "netizens" for being exposed to these inappropriate "contents" for minors too early

At the beginning of 2024, the prosecutor of the Tongxin Weimin team immediately conducted an investigation through on-site visits, inspections, and relevant laws and regulations upon learning of Xiaoya's predicament.

After investigation, it was found that some shops have released figurines advertisements containing soft pornographic content, selling soft pornographic figurines without providing any warning to underage consumers and their parents.

The prosecutor noticed that a figurine shop displayed a "beautiful girl" humanoid billboard advertisement and a poster of a girl figurine posted inside the shop, with female characters dressed in thin clothing, highlighting their private parts in the design, and accompanied by the Japanese slogan "Girlfriend lent to you to borrow satisfaction 5". Some of the "Pretty Girl" series figurines have revealing clothing and sexy body movements, with strong sexual implications.

There are many primary and secondary school consumers in the involved store, but no warning signs have been posted in the store. There are also many soft pornographic figurines sold to minors through online platforms, seriously threatening the physical and mental health of minors.

During the investigation, the prosecutor also found that some imported handmade products had packaging that was not compliant. For example, a girl's figurine "RACING MIKU" sold in a store within the jurisdiction is an imported product. The product description is all in Japanese, and there is no Chinese indication of the product name, production factory name, and address. It belongs to the category of "three no products" and cannot query the implementation standards and warning instructions. Consumers have no way of knowing the specific parameters and information of such products, which violates the personal safety and right to know of underage consumers.

In response to the above-mentioned issues, on March 1st, the prosecutor promptly consulted with relevant functional departments and suggested that the involved stores be ordered to rectify the above-mentioned behavior in accordance with the law, strengthen sales prompts, and carry out a special campaign to control soft pornography figurine products around primary and secondary schools in the whole district, actively promoting "green" figurine popularization activities.
